I can't even hear my own horn in there. All I can hear is my engine, the people around me's engines and a faint whine from the tires. When outside of the car everything's close to normal except for the weak squeak from the tyres still being there.

It doesn't "use" 100% of the CPU, it allocates it, so that no other application will take over, and then make LFS lag. This is common when it comes to games.

There's no point in playing(in lack of a better word) LFS without an internet connection. Multiplayer's kinda the whole point of LFS, isn't it?

Or even better, use the patcher, so you don't have to go through Recovery Console to switch the dll.

I finished the main storyline 'bout 5 hours ago. I'm at 96% completed atm. Shortest full-price game i've ever played. Got done in a day.
Fun as hell though. I might try it again once with each class

What I'm wondering is how much did you pay? I hope you didn't pay more than 24£. If you did you've certainly been ripped off.
